[Event] Best Buddies Malaysia Friendship Walk 2014

The 1st ever Best Buddies Friendship Walk in Malaysia was successfully held on yesterday (6th September 2014) at Taman Tasik Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur. The registration started as early as 4.00pm.

The event started with speech by the President, Mr. Andrew Chong to all the participants on how he get involved in Best Buddies organisation and what inspired him to keep moving.

The crowd was seen applauding on the speech given by him. The level of energy was elevated to a high level even before the walk begins.

Token of appreciations was given out to the sponsors with great heart that make the event a special and successful one. Without them, the event will not take off.

Among the highlights before the walk begins was the performance by Clarence Kang. He is an Autistic Savant with an extraordinary talent in Music & Art. He played the piano without being taught since 2 years and capable of reading difficult piano scores. In 2013, Clarence represented Malaysia at the Pyeongchang Special Music & Arts festival organised by Special Olympic Korea.

Before the walk began, a warm up jam session was held by a fitness trainer to prepare the participants for the walkathon.

The participants was flag off for the walk after the warm up jam session. The 1.8KM Best Buddies Friendship Walk is a loop around the lake in the park.

As you can seen, the walkers were happily smiling and walked in a pack throughout the route. Besides us, regular users of the park that include seasoned runners and joggers are seen on the route as well.

Along the way, two Red Bull cars were spotted giving out imported Red Bull Energy Drink from Europe which is not available in Malaysia. The drink tasted very sweet for my taste bud.

To add some spice for the event, zombies were summoned on the selected zone to scare and chase the walkers. They were loitering on the route and start catching noise walkers.

In the end, we just needed to "Keep Calm and Walk On" to stay away from the Zombie Zone.

About 20 minutes later, mostly all walkers returned to the Finishing point. Snack and drinks were given to them.. Some performances were line up to entertain the crowd before the closing of the event.

A gig lead by Brace, professional Violinist/Vocalist, entertained the crowd with few songs.

The final performance was a break dance. The crowd kept cheering and applauding when the dancers performed their moves.

Before the event ended, a group photo was taken with the committee and walkers for the success of the 1st ever Best Buddies Malaysia Friendship Walk.

Those who participate for the memorable walk is given a participation certificate for making the event a successful one.

I'm looking forward for the next year walk and hoping more participants will join and continue to support Best Buddies in Malaysia.
